Our History
Alder and Mitchell Family Dentistry
Service the Communities of Portland, Cedar Hills, Beaverton, Hillsboro, and beyond
This family dental practice was established over 70 years ago-in 1951-by Dr. Bryant 'Alf' Alder in the medical/Dental Building in downtown Portland. After a few years he made a bold move to NE 20th and Sandy (across from Jantzen Woolen Mills), one of the first dental practices outside of downtown Portland. In 1979 this practice moved to the west side of Portland on Cedar Hills Blvd when Dr. James Alder was in dental school at OHSU in Portland.
Dr James Alder joined the practice in 1982. Father and son worked together providing excellence in clinical dentistry, customer service, and embracing the concept of 'family dentistry'. Dr. Alf Alder retired in 1990, he passed in 2017 at age 97.
Dr Jerem Mitchell joined the practice in 2007. He brought new energy and treatments to the practice. Like Dr. James Alder, he grew up in this area, also attending Sunset HS and OHSU Dental School and is committed to our community.
Our office on Cornell Road near Sunset Hwy opened December 2013. Our newer office has larger rooms, taller ceilings, wider hallways, more natural light, up-to-date mechanical systems, and even better technology. Most important, this provides a much more pleasant experience for our patients and our team.
The methods of dental practice have improved greatly over the years. We now serve our patients more efficiently, more comfortably, and with more and better treatment options available. However, the principles this practice was founded upon have not changed, even though we've been here a long time.
We have a positive outlook on our future as we continually strive to add value to the services we provide.
